frē dao is beginning the ongoing work of opening learner-led, self-directed, hybrid Genius School communities — chapter by chapter, city by city.
We are not rushing to secure buildings first. We are beginning where real schools begin: with committed families and committed funders who all want to be frē.
We are looking for Founding Families who believe children deserve more than pressure, compliance, worksheets, test prep, and the slow loss of self.
The Genius School model is rooted in freedom, self-expression, belonging, decolonized education, real-world learning, and ownership of self — built for families who want excellence, safety, structure, beauty, and community without recreating school at home.
We are seeking philanthropists, investors, local leaders, and community partners who want to help fund the future of self-directed education.
We are raising toward multi-year operating stability so each chapter can focus on children, families, culture, and outcomes instead of returning immediately to survival-mode fundraising.
A frē dao Founding Charter Member helps bring a Genius School to life. They're early families, funders, community leaders, and builders who help shape the vision, grow the waitlist, invite aligned partners, and co-create the local culture before a chapter opens.
An educator and unschooling practitioner with 30 years in education and 25 years of lived self-directed learning experience, Karema built frē dao and The Genius School from her own family's deschooling journey — turning what she learned raising her own children into a community others could belong to.

Underneath the acronym, a DAO is simple: a group of people bound by a shared belief and shared resources, deciding together instead of being managed from above.
frē dao is that group, made real. A community of adults, kids, and teens — living and learning side by side, in freedom. Not a platform you log into. A people you belong with.
We practice DEcolonized relationships, DEschooling, and UNschooling: unlearning the hierarchies and compliance most of us grew up inside, and choosing — together — what learning, family, and community get to look like instead.

Recovering from the belief that learning only counts when it's graded, ranked, or permitted.
